It's a shame that one (rather terrible) audience question soured the sweet mood of Adam's appearance at this festival, but his "Fuck you, I don't know. Next question," was such an iconic reply that I wanted to honor the occasion of our king taking no shit and breaking the internet (again).

And what better reference to use than the one taken right after he was awarded his "Special EnergaCamerimage Award for an Actor," topped with that cute golden frog. It was his special day, and you can tell he was feeling the love.

Everything about this pose and smile hints at a subtle mischief and a quiet joy; it's characteristically wry, and deeper than it looks at first glance. Adam's face is turned a touch to the right as he tilts his shoulders down to the left, but his gaze is firmly fixed on us, almost like he's leaning in to share a sotto voce witticism. He's pursing the lower eyelids of both eyes, but the right is nestled more firmly in it's crow's feet crinkles than the left; that soft smirk pulling at his lips slants the same direction as his body, the upward tug narrowing his right eye a bit more than his left, pulling up the tiny folds under it, leaving the ones under his left eye visible but mostly quiescent. And for all that this feels like a small, almost Mona Lisa-esque, smile, it's deep enough that the dimple at the edge of his left cheek is activated, folding the skin enough to cast a shadow running all the way up the side of his face and beginning to rumple his temple.

His hair, that had been so neatly arranged by his groomer, Amy, is in a bit of disarray near his left ear, thanks to the headphones he needed for the translation from Polish to English during the opening ceremonies; there's a legion of single strands shining in the strong lighting as they curl energetically out from the neatly arranged waves. That same light is also catching on the hairs in his brows and the tips of his lashes, and is reflecting off of something in front of him to shine on the undersides of his brows and nose, as well as highlighting the beautiful lines and textures of his chin, jaw, and neck. The fall of light also emphasizes the geography of his face, especially the hollows of the scars near the left corner of his mouth.

It's pretty clear the last time a razor kissed that chin was at least 36-48 hours ago, which means his stubble is just long enough to let us enjoy the sparks of silver scattered amongst the black hairs. It does take a while to paint his facial hair when it's this length, I can't cheat and use a texture brush, but it's worth the effort.

Photo used for reference was taken on 11 Nov 2023 by Daniel Raczynski at the Camerimage Film Festival in Torun, Poland.

About 36 hrs of work, the skin textures took forever!
